Fujitsu Racing's Jason Bright has given his all-new Ford Falcon V8 a strong debut at the fourth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway.

The first time the Falcon turned a wheel was during Friday practice and after setting the seventh fastest time in the opening part of practice he went on to qualify 15th.

Race #1 did not go to plan with Bright eliminated in an opening lap collision. Starting 28th for race #2 he charged through to 14th, before an outstanding burst at the start of the final race.

Bright got a great jump and passed a sway of cars in the opening laps. Following the pit stop he was placed ninth, but slipped to 13th after late brake issues.

Bright was placed 21st for the round.

The round was won by fellow Ford driver Mark Winterbottom.

“Ninth place in that last race would have been a true indication of where the car was this weekend,” said Bright.

“Taking the opening race of the weekend out of the equation, we really had a good race car for race #2 and three-quarters of race #3. Our lap times were right up there and it is great to race and pass guys out there.

“I’m very excited about the future of this car. We still have a bit to learn, but we can look forward to better things in the coming races.”

Fujitsu Racing Chief Engineer Geoff Slater was pleased with the outcome.

“Considering the car only turned a wheel for the first time on Friday, this has been a very pleasing performance,” said Slater.

“After the disappointment of race #1, we really attacked the second race and it was great to gain as many positions as we did.

“Jason was outstanding in the opening laps in race #3. It was a shame that the brake pedal got long towards the end. We will have a good look at that back in Melbourne.

“Both us and Jason have plenty to learn with the new car, but when it goes well we all become quick learners!”

The next round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be at Sandown on June 7 – 9.
