Sandown International Raceway's days appear numbered with the likelihood that the facility will be handed over to property developers in the coming years.
So where to next for the pre-Bathurst 500km endurance event? V8X Supercar Magazine issue #94 takes a look at some of the major talking points for the long-distance events, in the 2016 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 special edition.

The dual horse racing and motorsport facility, owned by the Melbourne Racing Club, is worth an estimated $1 billion to developers in Melbourne's suburban sprawl with its 100 hectares of land located just 25 kilometres from the CBD and already serviced by its own railway station.
Therefore, Sandown is set for the same fate as Oran Park in the next decade, with the home of the 500km endurance race likely to host its final Supercars event in 2019.
Sandown has hosted more Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars rounds than any other circuit, notching up its 47th event in 2016, with its touring-car endurance event dating back to 1964.
So where to for the 500km Bathurst curtain raiser in the next decade?
Issue #94 presents the case for a number of candidates, including the most recent hosts of the 500km endurance event in Phillip Island and Queensland Raceway, the former with a long tradition of long-distance events dating back to Armstrong 500 (the forerunner for the Bathurst 1000) and the latter set to undergo major redevelopments in the coming years.
Also, issue #94 looks at the progress of The Bend Motorsport Park development at Tailem Bend in South Australia and ponders whether the facility could fill the void left in the endurance schedule along with other possibilities.
