V8 Supercars set to announce Austin details

V8 Supercars will this week confirm the date, format and other details of the landmark 2013 event at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom, who visited the NASCAR event at Sonoma over the weekend, will attend the launch, which is set to confirm the mid to late May date for the event.
The date is expected to fall on the same weekend as the NASCAR All-Star race, held annually at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, which would make available NASCAR drivers who don't qualify for the All-Star race.
V8 Supercars is tipped to implement a Gold Coast 600-style co-driver format for American drivers at the Austin event.
However, the availability of IndyCar drivers remains in question given the potential dates clashes with Indy 500 preparations, with practice and qualifying on the weekends preceding race day, which is historically the last Sunday in May.
Another possibility is a tie-up with the American Le Mans Series, which recently announced it would stage an event at the Circuit of the Americas during the spring of 2013.
V8 Supercars announced in June 2011 that it had agreed a five-year agreement to stage an annual event at the Circuit of the Americas, which hosts Formula 1 in November.
